The Feistner farm was homesteaded in 1883 by our great, great grandparents Leonard and Anna Feistner who came to the Dakota Territory to establish a Lutheran Church. The first house was a sod house which stood for 17 years. The first wood frame house built on the homestead in 1900 was ruined in a propane explosion in the spring of 2001.
Through the years and five generations, there has been much change. Our farming practices have changed to the benefit of wildlife, especially pheasants which started to come back in the mid 1980's. In 1991, we started to host pheasant hunts for some added income. These South Dakota style hunts grew in popularity and today we dedicate a good portion of the farm strictly to pheasant hunting. We spend almost half of each year preparing and maintaining nesting habitat, food plots, lodging facilities, hunting dogs and finally hunting for these colorful, exciting birds each fall.
